    Lightbulb Look What I Made!

Ok, it may not be as impressive as Gopherboy's air pump muffler but I'm well chuffed with myself. I'm quite a clumsy person and I keep breaking the glass test tubes so I've been looking for ages for a test tube holder. I was unable to find one locally and online companies seem to only sell them in bulk. So when I was unpacking my new tank, I suddenly thought "Hmmm...I wonder?"

So I cut out a rectangular piece of aeroboard/polystyrene/foam - whatever the hell that packaging is - used a circular handle to score holes of the right diameter and hey presto! One test tube holder and see, it even has a pretty pattern...Go me!

That's what I found. And you couldn't order just one either. So now I'm sorted (patent pending!).

It's such a girly thing to be pleased about but I always did enjoy Arts & Crafts in school. Necessity is indeed the mother of invention!

My m8s making me one outta wood... will remind me of my old school/college days (or is that a bad thing)

I had thought of using an old icecream container but thought it may not be rigid enough...

Yours is a good idea, but it aint gopherproof... im very hamfisted so need something a little more robust

Like you said, why pay for it when you can make it

PS I thought my filter was better than the air muffler as you call it

PPS Here is an interesting or shocking experiment for you all to try, get a 5ml syringe, use that to see where 5ml of water gets to on your API tubes... I bet at least 90% are NOT properly calibrated to 5ml... seeing as the line is in a different place on most of them anyway...

PPPS SORRY FOR THE THREAD THEFT

Any how, I use a syringe for water testing now n not the line on tubes (same qty of water every test = better comparative results)

API test tubes are flat on the bottom, why do you need that?

    Good idea though

I added it to the DIY Directory for you.

Lead us not into temptation. Just tell us where it is and we'll find it.

Tried that with two different types but toes are a different diameter to test tubes apparently.

I kept knocking over the test tubes (thus spilling contents and/or breaking them) when they were just standing alone.

I do that too! I also have 6 tubes when the master test thingy has 4 holes to store mine in. Gonna get my grampy-in-law to knock one up for me too.

Nice idea - they say the simplest things work best

Well, if my dear old dad was still alive, he'd have made me a beautiful wooden one as he was a carpenter by trade. Alas, I didn't inherit his skills.

Ah you're all too kind. Thanks for the compliments. Btw, I'm a bit embarrassed about it being in the DIY Directory after I've read the kind of work put into the other 'inventions'. I made this in about ten minutes.

How do you test your water without test tubes? :star:
