    Building my own rock decoration

I decided to attempt to build my own decoration for the tank using aquarium silicone glue and some rocks gathered from outside. I'm not sure if the rocks will be suitable for the tank, but if not I'll use this as a practice run

I boiled the rocks for about an hour last night and started working on it this afternoon. Here's some pictures of the progress - if anyone thinks the rock looks unsuitable please let me know

    Nice work on the decorations!
The rocks look fine, as long as they are hard, not crumbly or powdery.

A good test is to drip vinegar or hydrochoric acid on them. If they fizz, then they are not suitable. If they don't fizz, then they are okay(fish-safe)

Let them sit for 15 min after dripping the vinegar. Since vinegar is a weak acid, the effects will not be instanteous...

Thanks for that exmt, I have some spares sitting in a bowl next to me... will check in 15 mins.

I am going to leave them a week for the glue to properly set before putting them in the tank.

Here's a couple of pictures of the finished thing, although they don't look as good in the photos.

    This is fun

    Your welcome.

Silcone usually sets in 48 hours, so spare yourself a week.

I'm a bit worried - the rocks are quite heavy when glued together. Would they put too much strain on the bottom of the glass?
    Thanks
    Kate

    Thanks Karen

I'm going to put live plants round it when it goes in the tank so hopefully it'll look natural. If not I'll pull it apart and make another one
