Adding a light to a Juwel Rekord tank

I have seen a few people ask how to add a tube to a Rekord tank, here are picks of how I did it on my 120L, it will work on a 60L and all others as far as I know. Its screws onto the front of the hood like below. All you need is a reflector, lighting ballast and a tube. Drill the reflector and the hood where you want to hold them and just bolt it together with the plastic nuts and bolts that came with the ballast kit

Good tip. Exactly how I did mine on my Rekord 96.

Another nice tip for anyone with a rekord tank is to cover the crappy white plastic reflector they supply with the standard light with a layer of silver baking foil. Really makes a heck of a difference, at no cost at all!

On closer inspection looks like that is exactly what you've done in the pic above, Paul

dont use aluminium as a reflector if your ph is over 8, apparently it oxidies and you dont want that dripping back into your tank

Paul - thanks for this - can I ask does the heat from the new light have any effect on the tank lid in terms of warping? I have seen posts where this has been a problem

They have two light tubes already. I imagine you could add a third if you really put your mind to it.

Everything from the 125 has more than one light tube. It's the smaller tanks that really need modding for any chance of decent plant growth.

IME... None of the Jewel tanks come with adequate lighting for anything but a few hardy plants. They can be modded in the same way using the flaps tho and ofcourse there are other more expensive methods available like secondary jewel light units, I-Bars and arcadia canopies, which can become more cost effective when talking bigger tanks.

    Excellent thread..btw

Just read the post - how do you install a second jewel light unit? can you buy them online? Not heard of this option so am very interested.

    Many thanks clare
